Biography
The Brewsters are one of the oldest of our East Anglian families : in the confirmation by Harvey, Clarenceux, A.D. 1561, of the original grant of arms (now in the possession of Cardinal Brewster, Esq. of Halstead, Essex), the house of Brewster is described as "most ancient ;" the date of original grant is not known. In a list of the gentry of Norfolk, returned to King Henry VII., A.D. 1438, we find the name of Galfridus Brewster, and in 1550, Sir John Brewster died at Kirton, in Lincolnshire. The family beca William brewster of the mayflower.
